Position: Postdoctoral Scientist in Atmospheric Chemistry Modelling (f/m/div)

Duties: The objective of the project is to provide a comprehensive picture of the complex mechanisms that are involved in the observed trends of tropospheric ozone in China during the last decade. The project will assess, by using surface and space-based observations and modeling studies, the response of the ozone budget to changes in surface emissions and meteorological/climate conditions. The main task involved for this position is to develop and apply regional atmospheric models (e.g., WRF-Chem) to assess and explain the causes of the observed ozone trends in China
Requirements: A PhD in Atmospheric sciences, Geosciences, Physics, Applied Mathematics or a related field; Experience in the development of numerical models and their application to atmospheric problems, specifically atmospheric chemistry and air pollution. Experience in developing and using the WRF-Chem model is welcome; Good communication skills, ability to work autonomously and self-responsible; Fluency in English as working language. Knowledge of German or in Mandarin languages is welcome
   
Text: The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M), a multidisciplinary centre for climate re-search located in Hamburg, Germany in the heart of one of Europe's most livable and vibrant cities, provides a highly international and interdisciplinary environment for conducting scientific research as well as access to state-of-the-art scientific and computer facilities. The Institute invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scientist in Atmospheric Chemistry Modelling (f/m/div - W085) to support research activities of the Air-Changes project (Air pollution in China and the unde-sired effects of mitigation strategies) in the Environmental Modelling Group of the Institute. The Air-Changes project conducted jointly with the University of Bremen, Fudan University in Shanghai and other Chinese research institutions is sponsored and funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
