JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The laboratory of Dr. Alison Gernand in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State is seeking an epidemiologist to plan and conduct extensive meta-analyses on data from maternal trials of balanced energy-protein (BEP) supplementation. The study is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Trials are being conducted in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. BEP supplements are being tested in prepregnancy, pregnancy, and/or lactation in each of 7 trials participating in the project. Early (completed) efforts of the project have been to harmonize variable definitions and data collection across trials. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to interact with investigators around the world. Primary responsibilities of the position: data management, data analysis planning, meta-analysis and interpretation, and manuscript writing. Strong quantitative skills (biostatistics/epidemiology) and experience with meta-analysis and maternal and child nutrition are required. Candidates must also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. There is a preference for applicants with experience and training in the following: global health, randomized controlled trials in LMICs, and pregnancy/lactation. Fluency in Stata is highly preferred but not required. Applicant should have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in an appropriate field; those with master’s degrees plus extensive experience may also apply. The cover letter should include: (1) experience and training in biostatistics/epidemiology and meta-analysis (please list competencies in advanced statistical techniques and statistical software packages used); (2) interest and experience in maternal and child nutrition, and specifically in pregnancy/lactation; and (3) when you are available to start. This is a fixed-term 48 week appointment funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of renewal. Remote work will be possible until COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
