Duties: The Festival Marketing Manager oversees marketing and promotion of the Open City Documentary Festival and related activities. The post holder is responsible for the production and distribution of marketing collateral, social media channels and all other PR across the interlinked film activities within the Public Anthropology team. They will support the Anthropology departments Communications and Marketing Manager on marketing for the Ethnographic and Documentary Film MA and the Creative Documentary by Practice MFA. They will produce a regular newsletter and manage the Open City Docs website/s. Under the guidance of the Festival Director, the Director of Programming and the Founding Director, the post holder edits the journal Non-Fiction; The post holder will oversee the creation and delivery of all the marketing for the festival and all its surrounding activities; Open City Docs is home to several projects in the world of documentary. Founded at UCL by Prof. Michael Stewart in 2010, Open City Docs is dedicated to developing and supporting non-fiction storytellers. The organisation nurtures the next generation of filmmakers, audio producers and VR filmmakers through training programmes, an annual film festival, and other screening projects throughout the year; Open City Documentary Festival celebrates the art of non-fiction, creating an open space in London to nurture and champion the art of creative documentary and non-fiction filmmakers. We aim to challenge and expand the idea of documentary in all its forms. We provide a platform for emerging talent as well as established masters working within the documentary form; In 2022, as part of the new campus at UCL, we will open a cinema that is currently intended to provide a key bridge between our new neighbours in east London and the film work (both practical and theoretical) at UCL. In preparation for the move east, and after a period in which the festival has established an international reputation for nurturing partners in the creative non-fiction industry, we wish to reconnect with the vibrant intellectual life at UCL from which this festival first emerged. While maintaining one foot wholly in the industry we wish now to place the other foot more firmly in the home of our main funder, Londons Global University, as UCL frames itself - whilst retaining the current spirt and profile of the festival. As we move to the East Bank (former Olympic Park) we will need to find creative new ways for the festival to play an active role in its new communities; This is a full-time, open-ended post
Requirements: We are looking for someone with leadership experience in marketing and communications, preferably in the museums or arts and film industry sectors. Open City Documentary Festival is run through the year by a small group with considerable team work and sharing of responsibilities. It is essential that the post holder be committed to this kind of working environment, and has extensive and deep knowledge of the current documentary film industry, trends and changes. The successful candidate will have a proven experience of digital marketing, website management and development, and a sharp eye for creative design and experience of creating and enhancing brand awareness to attract new customers
