Duties: The role-holder will be part of the Business and Innovation Partnerships (BIP) team (Technology, engineering and built environment sub-team) in UCL Innovation and Enterprise. The IDM will complement the work of a team of Principal and Senior Partnership Managers in BIP who are responsible for building major institutional partnerships with industry partners in key sectors and they will work in a highly integrated matrix setting, being highly visible within Faculties. This is to ensure co-ordination with other teams who support research facilitation and business engagement, including School Research Co-ordination teams
Requirements: Innovation Development Managers use a range of business development and innovation techniques to increase the pool of research-led innovations emanating from UCL and to help move ideas closer to take-up by industry. The IDM will have excellent knowledge of modern innovation and technology and business development approaches, with a demonstrable track record of success in sectors that are priorities for the UCL Innovation and Enterprise strategy; The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, liaison and networking skills, along with the ability to work with colleagues in a wide variety of contexts. It is essential that the IDM is self-motivated and well-organised. Experience of working in the private sector and knowledge of the HEI Sector would be an advantage

The role of an IDM is to work closely with academic staff and business partners, to rapidly develop ideas emerging from UCL research into new innovations and applications with potential to attract funding from collaborative grant schemes, such as the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, or directly from business partners and investors. This position provides coverage across opportunity areas relevant to the built environment, engineering, mathematical and physical sciences sectors. The role-holder will be part of the Business and Innovation Partnerships (BIP) team (Technology, engineering and built environment sub-team) in UCL Innovation and Enterprise. The IDM will complement the work of a team of Principal and Senior Partnership Managers in BIP who are responsible for building major institutional partnerships with industry partners in key sectors and they will work in a highly integrated matrix setting, being highly visible within Faculties. The IDM plays a key role in assisting researchers to understand routes to innovation and business development support available at UCL and will interact closely with relevant other units, including UCL Business and UCL Consultants, to ensure a joined-up innovation service operates in UCL. This role is available for 6 months.
