Duties: An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Mechanical Design Engineer in the Mechanical and Thermal Engineering Group in the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory), University College London, to support the laboratorys space science instrumentation programme; The post holder will work within project teams to develop and analyse instruments or subsystems of instruments as required for the laboratorys space projects. The work carried out will support the instrument development during the study phase of space programmes, fulfil instrument design requirements during the build phase or support mechanical test programmes
Requirements: The successful candidate is expected to hold a Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering Design or have equivalent experience. Experience in creating and maintaining CAD models and files, the ability to create and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical design experience and a proven track record of manufactured designs are essential requirements for this post

The post holder will work within project teams to develop and analyse instruments or subsystems of instruments as required for the laboratorys space projects. The work carried out will support the instrument development during the study phase of space programmes, fulfil instrument design requirements during the build phase or support mechanical test programmes. The post is initially funded for two years in the first instance and is expected to continue after this period. Key Requirements The successful candidate is expected to hold a Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering Design or have equivalent experience. Experience in creating and maintaining CAD models and files, the ability to create and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical design experience and a proven track record of manufactured designs are essential requirements for this post.
