Position: Project Scientist in targeted protein degradation and chemical proteomics
Institution: CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences
Location: Wien, Austria
Duties: For decades, many well-studied and highly validated cancer targets have been considered to be outside the reach of traditional drug discovery. The successful applicant will work on this project as part of a multi-disciplinary research team consisting of biochemists, molecular biologists and synthetic chemists. This exciting collaboration is at the vibrant interface between academia and industry, allowing the candidate to achieve a measurable translational impact and build a meaningful network in the pharmaceutical industry
Requirements: The successful candidate holds a PhD degree in biochemistry, chemical biology, proteomics or molecular biology. We are looking for a solution-oriented, persistent researcher with an independent, well-structured and goal-oriented working style. You should have a proven scientific track record (including at least one first author publication) in the fields of chemical biology, biochemistry or proteomics. Analytic skills, in particular an expertise in chemical proteomics is considered a plus. A track record in supervising students or technical assistants would be an asset

Text: Project Scientist in targeted protein degradation and chemical proteomics Apply now Apply now The Winter laboratory at CeMM, the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, is recruiting a project scientist to target undruggable proteins for the treatment of cancer. The Lab and the Opportunity For decades, many well-studied and highly validated cancer targets have been considered to be outside the reach of traditional drug discovery. Targeted protein degradation is a novel therapeutic paradigm that promises to overcome these historic limitations, and to significantly expand the druggable space in the human proteome. To deliver on the promise of degrading undruggable proteins , CeMM has initiated a partnership with Pfizer (US) where we are working on innovate proteomics and chemical biology approaches to identify and mechanistically characterize novel small-molecule degraders to attack vulnerabilities in cancer cells. The successful applicant will work on this project as part of a multi-disciplinary research team consisting of biochemists, molecular biologists and synthetic chemists. This exciting collaboration is at the vibrant interface between academia and industry, allowing the candidate to achieve a measurable translational impact and build a meaningful network in the pharmaceutical industry. The Candidate The successful candidate holds a PhD degree in biochemistry, chemical biology, proteomics or molecular biology. A track record in supervising students or technical assistants would be an asset. The working language at CeMM is English, and excellent written and oral communication skills as well as high accuracy, reliability and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are a requirement. The Institute CeMM is a biomedical flagship institute in the heart of Europe, Vienna. We are committed to highest scientific standards and provide an international environment representing more than 47 nationalities. The working language is English. In the past 3 years CeMM groups published numerous ground-breaking studies in prestigious journals such as Science, Cell, Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Immunology, Immunity etc. CeMM is located within the medical campus of Vienna and operates several technology platforms (chemical biological screening, proteomics, metabolomics, next-generation sequencing) as well as extensive bioinformatics infrastructure. We offer This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated scientist to join a successful group in an inspiring and dynamic setting. In return we are offering an attractive employee benefits package including health insurance, company health care, competitive holiday allowance, daily bonus for the in-house cafeteria and an annual gross salary of EUR 54,460 (following the recommendations of the FWF ).
