Position: Head of Communications & Partnerships (f/m/x)

Duties: Responsibility for the overall communications (external, internal, crisis) and communication strategy for GMI and IMBA; aligned with interests of the shareholder (ÖAW) and the Vienna BioCenter; Stakeholder management: communications with decision makers (e.g. politics, ministries, sponsors); Act as press officer for relevant institute topics; Managing and guiding the team including personnel development; Strategic positioning of the directorate vis-à-vis external stakeholders and national science policy; Actively advising and supporting of the directorate in media positioning and communication policy matters; especially during visits & (media) appointments
Requirements: University degree in Communications, Marketing or a similar qualification; Proven work experience as Head of Communications in a similar environment (strong networks within Life Science in Austria) including leadership competence; Scientific background is an asset; Excellent communicator: able to communicate at all levels, strong interpersonal skills; Pro-active and passionate personality, self-motivated and flexible; Structured and well-organized way of working, high resilience; Fluent in German and English (written and spoken)
   
Text: The Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA) and the Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI) are institutes of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). The aim of GMI is to provide excellence in plant molecular biology - therefore it deals as the only international center for basic plant research in Austria and belongs to one of the very few throughout the world. IMBA - Institute of Molecular Biotechnology is one of the leading biomedical research institutes in Europe focusing on cutting-edge functional genomics and stem cell technologies. Both institutes are located at the Vienna BioCenter, a dynamic cluster of research institutes, universities, and biotech companies. The working language is English.As of now we are looking for an experienced and dedicated candidate to join the team as Head of Communications & Partnerships (f/m/x)YOUR FUTURE ROLE• Responsibility for the overall communications (external, internal, crisis) and communication strategy for GMI and IMBA - aligned with interests of the shareholder (ÖAW) and the Vienna BioCenter• Stakeholder management: communications with decision makers (e.g. politics, ministries, sponsors)• Act as press officer for relevant institute topics• Managing and guiding the team including personnel development• Strategic positioning of the directorate vis-à-vis external stakeholders and national science policy• Actively advising and supporting of the directorate in media positioning and communication policy matters; especially during visits & (media) appointments• Project planning, tracking and evaluation to ensure continued improvement in the communications practice• Further development of the funding committee: gaining sponsors and supporters for the research activities of the institutes• Preparation & monitoring of the budget, regular reporting activitiesJOB REQUIREMENTS• University degree in Communications, Marketing or a similar qualification• Proven work experience as Head of Communications in a similar environment (strong networks within Life Science in Austria) including leadership competence• Scientific background is an asset• Excellent communicator: able to communicate at all levels, strong interpersonal skills• Pro-active and passionate personality, self-motivated and flexible• Structured and well-organized way of working, high resilience• Fluent in German and English (written and spoken)WE OFFER• Opportunity to work in a dynamic international and family friendly environment with excellent benefits• Exciting position with room for creativity and innovationThe compensation of this position consists of a gross annual salary of € 70.000 or more - depending on your previous experience.
