Duties: By joining the EL- FC Section, you will be involved in the following: Establish installation requirements for optical fibres in the entire accelerator complex and general infrastructure at CERN; Take part in defining optical fibre specifications and their qualification/quality assurance process; Assist the project managers in preparing database registration and technical work files for the contractors; Contribute in drafting work planning and follow up with the contractors; Organize and manage worksite meetings; Verify the quality of the work performed by contractors; Organise and execute fibre patching and measurements as required; Organise maintenance and repair activities when required; Participate -as required - in similar activities for copper cabling; Prepare work progress reports; The candidate will be guided in acquiring the capacity of dealing with installations of increasing complexity. The ability of efficiently supporting and integrating with the Section Team will become a key aspect of the daily work
Requirements: In order to qualify for a place on the programme you will need to meet the following requirements: You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State; You have a Technical Diploma or equivalent in an Electricity, and no more than 4 years'relevant experience after finishing your diploma; If you are currently studying, you are still eligible to apply, although you are expected to have obtained your qualification by the start of your appointment at CERN; If you hold a BSc or MSc, you are not eligible. However you may be eligible for the Fellowship Programme; You should have at least a working knowledge of English or French

The Fibre Optics and Cabling Section in the Engineering Department is responsible for the installation of fibre optics and copper cabling in the entire CERN accelerator complex and general infrastructure.
