Position: Post-doc position for Electrochemical Synthesis of Ammonia

Duties: We are looking for a Post-doc to study and understand the fundamental mechanisms involved, while optimizing the process, activity, and energy efficiency. This will cover investigating the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer formation conditions, and elucidating the effect of different additives, solvents, and proton donors on the composition and behaviour of said layer. The project will involve considerable use of potentiostats, working in a glovebox, and include product analysis both quantitatively and qualitatively
Requirements: The successful candidate is well-motivated, hardworking, and willing and able to work as part of a team. The candidates should preferably have a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science, but others with key skills relevant to the project could also be considered

Apply online This project aims at developing a fuel cell type electrochemical cell that can directly produce ammonia at ambient conditions from electricity, water, and air in a scalable manner. It is based on recent breakthroughs on the lithium-mediated electrochemical ammonia synthesis, and the focus is now on understanding and up-scaling the process. We are looking for a Post-doc to study and understand the fundamental mechanisms involved, while optimizing the process, activity, and energy efficiency. This will cover investigating the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer formation conditions, and elucidating the effect of different additives, solvents, and proton donors on the composition and behaviour of said layer. The project will involve considerable use of potentiostats, working in a glovebox, and include product analysis both quantitatively and qualitatively. The applicant must have extensive experience in organic chemistry and lithium battery research, and characterization thereof via techniques such as UV-vis, GC-MS, XPS and XRD. Also, experience with designing and testing fuel cell type electrochemical cell will be considered an advantage. Previous experience with electrochemical nitrogen reduction may also be beneficial, but is not required. Qualifications The successful candidate is well-motivated, hardworking, and willing and able to work as part of a team. Salary and appointment terms The salary and appointment terms of the position is consistent with the current rules for employment of academic staff.
