You hold a degree in engineering, business, political science or social science or similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree in engineering. In addition we expect you to have basic knowledge about innovation, entrepreneurship, data science, and business intelligence as well as knowledge about relevant research methods

This project will contribute to the Departments overall strategy of strengthening our knowledge within a research field that ties university research and technological development with companies - and especially SMEs - need for innovation and implementation of new technology. University- industry collaboration is increasing in these years and we see a growth in both numbers and in types of collaborations. This covers collaborative relationships with many different types of companies including companies without previous experience of collaboration with universities such as SMEs without R&D or tradition of more systematic knowledge building. The collaborative projects have also become more diverse and include, in addition to research, consulting, product development, problem solving, educational collaborations (eg. student projects, cases, and internships) etc. The experience is that the collaborations are largely value-creating and knowledge creating for all involved actors and institutions. However, there is a lack of systematic knowledge to understand the collaborations more deeply. This PhD project will first map out the existing form of University-Industry collaborations from initial processes of search and select to the final concluding activities, and then research methods to measure impact of the different types of collaborations. After that we will develop a possible model for future university-industry collaborations and test out the model in the organisation. Responsibilities and tasks We are looking for an ambitious candidate for a PhD project (3 year full-time) to focus on the impact of university-industry (U-I) collaborations. We expect the candidate can perform relevant research using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods and extend collaborations with key academic and industrial partners within and outside DTU during the PhD project.
