Duties: The postholder will pursue theoretical and computational research into the application of tensor network techniques in quantum simulation and quantum machine learning. This will include the production of new algorithms coded in Cirq or Quiskit to run in simulation and on actual near-term devices. Carry out research and be responsible for key aspects of the Research Project, focusing upon the development of new algorithms for quantum simulation and/or quantum machine learning using tensor networks.Coding and running these algorithms in simulation or on actual devices. The work will be carried out in the group of Prof Andrew G Green, in collaboration with the groups of Prof Dan Browne, Dr Toby Cubitt and Dr Lluis Masanes, and our partners in GoogleAI and Kuano
Requirements: Applicants should have or have submitted their thesis towards a PhD or equivalent in Quantum Physics, Quantum Computation or a related area. A strong background in the analytical/numerical tools used to model quantum many-body systems, or the analytical/numerical tools of quantum information processing and quantum machine learning are essential; Experience in a subset of quantum simulation using tensor networks, research in machine learning, research in quantum computation, programming in Python, and collaborative code development using Github are desirable

Duties of the posts are Stay up-to-date with global developments in these research areas and advise other researchers / partners within the Partnership. Organise and chair regular meetings with UCL collaborators and with external partners in the relevant work package(s) of the Prosperity Partnership. Visit collaborating partners to develop research ideas and learn about new developments. Identify and exploit opportunities to engage with other researchers in the Partnership in collaborative research. Attend and participate in all meetings of the full Partnership. Duration of the role is for one year in the first instance.
