Duties: Investigating the violation of the Newtonian law of gravity experimentally for a spacing of the masses in the sub-micrometer range; Using microtechnologies to develop an optomechanical resonator of high quality (> 106) and high force sensitivity (10 15 N); Enhancing a MEMS-based pico-force sensor with an integrated Fabry-Pérot interferometer in cooperation with TU Chemnitz; Manufacturing extremely smooth (Ra 2 nm) hemispheric test mass surfaces by means of ion beam polishing; Publishing scientific work and participating in international conferences; Cooperating with project partners within the scope of the Quantum Frontiers Excellence Cluster; Writing project reports and presenting results
Requirements: You have completed your university studies (Master's or German Diplom) in physics, automation, electrical engineering, communications or mechanical engineering with a very good grade; You have experience in surface metrology (microscopy, AFM, profilometers, nano-indentation); You have a sound knowledge of sensors, FPGA programming and automatic control engineering; You have in-depth experience with the programming languages Matlab and LabView; You are familiar with numerical simulations; You are able to carry out scientific work autonomously; you enjoy experimental work; You have a good command of spoken and written English; You are creative and proactive; You are a team player with excellent communication skills; You are prepared to familiarize yourself with new research projects and new developments quickly; You will work in a motivated team which provides the metrological fundamentals for industry in the course of growing digitalization and elaborates innovative concepts for metrology of the future. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science. With a starting date as soon as possible, Department 5.1, Surface Metrology, of Division 5 is looking for a doctoral candidate This position is initially available on the basis of a 3-year fixed-term contract. You will be employed at our Braunschweig site. The remuneration will be paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund (85 %).
