Duties: The Research Department of Renal Medicine within UCLs Division of Medicine is a vibrant department where basic scientists and clinicians work together to understand diseases of the kidney and urinary tract. Within this, the Chronic Urinary Tract Infection group is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to help develop a highly innovative new dynamic in vitro bladder model which they will use to understand the basic biology and host-pathogen interactions of a key bacterial pathogen; A collaboration between industry and UCL, this is an interdisciplinary, basic science project between biology and engineering which builds on previous work of the UCL team; The researcher will work closely with other scientists from industry partners and the principal investigator to drive the collaboration forward to meet the research milestones. The researcher will also be expected to attend regular collaborative meetings, keep detailed notebooks, assist the PI in periodic reports to the funder, and ultimately write up their data for publication; Duration of the post is funded for 22 months in the first instance
Requirements: The candidate should have a PhD (or have recently submitted their PhD thesis) in a relevant biological field with a good research track record. The main lab techniques employed will be tissue culture, cell biology, microbiology and confocal microscopy, so skills and experience in these areas would be advantageous; The candidate must be very organised and proactive with excellent time-management skills, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a diverse team being essential for the collaborative nature of this project

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £31,542 - £33,257 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
