Position: Application administrator (DataSHIELD/Opal)

Location: Berlin, Germany
Duties: As member of the Molecular Epidemiology Research Group you will be responsible for administration and maintenance of the local DataSHIELD server infrastructure that will connect to the DataSHIELD servers of data holders and that will serve as access point for distributed data analysis. The DataSHIELD server infrastructure is hosted by the IT department of the MDC. In addition, you will provide information and assistance for set-up and maintenance of DataSHIELD to partners, including, among others, installation and maintenance manuals, and provide support for development of necessary training material for distributed data analysis
Requirements: Applicants should have a degree in informatics or bioinformatics, alternatively with profound experience in biomedical or healthcare data analysis (preferably with tools like DataSHIELD). The ideal candidate should have skills in programming in R, as well as in administration of databases/datawarehouses, such as Opal. Candidates should be interested in the medical field and should be able to communicate with partners of the consortium across a wide range of different areas. Candidates should be able to communicate fluently in written and oral English. German communication skills are beneficial

The MDC is a member of the largest scientific organization in Germany - the Helmholtz Association - and offers a stimulating and interactive research environment with the most modern infrastructure. Currently, 1,250 employees and approximately 500 guests work at the locations in Berlin-Buch and Berlin-Mitte. The Molecular Epidemiology Research Group at the MDC studies the relationship between lifestyle, genetic, metabolic, and environmental factors with risk and outcome of chronic diseases in human populations. We participate in the National Research Data Infrastructure for Personal Health Data (NFDI4Health), which is funded by the German Research Foundation ( DFG ). NFDI4Health aims to create the most comprehensive inventory of German epidemiological, public health and clinical trial data. As part of NFDI4Health we focus on establishing and enabling services for distributed data analytics, including DataSHIELD.
