The position involves working with the PI of an NIH-funded skin disease research center that leverages clinical and bench research towards translation. Access to a wide range of human biomaterials to uncover transcriptional, proteomic, metabolomic, and lipidomic alterations. Follow up on bioinformatic data involves taking candidates into the basic science lab for better defining and moving discoveries forward towards drug discovery or repurposing existing medications in preclinical and ultimately clinical trials. The research lab’s three main areas of focus are: a) using topically-delivered nanotechnology towards developing new targeted therapies for skin disorders; b) understanding the mechanism(s) of peripheral sensory neuropathy in inflammatory skin disorders (such as psoriasis and eczema) and diabetic wounds; and c) determining the mechanism by which obesity exacerbates inflammatory disease. The ideal candidate will have some skills from PhD research or an early postdoctoral fellowship but will be seeking additional skills (in both bench research and bioinformatics) through this fellowship. Research projects will involve processing big data sets in transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics and relating these measures to preclinical and clinical outcomes. Previous programming skills in MATLAB, R, and/or Python are required. Must have excellent communication skills.
