The successful candidate will have a strong background in both Earth system science and data science with possible connections to one of the following domains: meteorology/atmospheric science, geosciences, oceanography, civil and environmental engineering, statistics, or applied mathematics. A key goal of the center is to provide scientific support to interdisciplinary projects across the university and so the candidate should have demonstrated experience working in a collaborative environment across multiple disciplines. Within the new center, the selected candidate will have considerable freedom to build and join research projects to develop a collaborative environment for engaging on basic and applied projects that require expertise in climate system science across the university. We expect the new hires should be able to work on all aspects of center activities, including the core elements required for interdisciplinary projects: setting up and running Earth system Models, analyzing data sets to provide scientific support, and managing climate/weather/geoscience data archives. This position provides unique opportunities for research, education, outreach, decision support, and professional development, as well as mentoring by a team of experts in relevant disciplines. Evidence of completion of a Ph.D. in a relevant field by date of hire is required.
