Position: Doctoral Position in Computer Science/Software Architecture on Digital Platforms in Smart Energy Systems (gn)

Duties: Thereby successful candidates will pursue a doctoral degree on the following topics: Smart grids and digital energy systems; IT-supported integration of industrial processes into the energy market; IT-Platforms to provide access and transparency to flexibility providers; The position holder will be required to perform the following tasks: Development of a service-oriented platform architecture; Definition of the interfaces for data exchange between individual market participants and services; Modelling flexibility of industrial companies with complex interrelations and defining data exchange requirements; Requirement analysis for possible electricity market services; Design of the interface to the company-internal platforms for energy management; Collaboration with industrial and research partners for the implementation; Participating in proposal drafting; Assisting in organization of relevant workshops; Disseminating results through scientific publications

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) invites applications from doctoral candidates in the general area of Smart Energy Systems. SnT is carrying out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services, often in collaboration with industrial, governmental or international partners. The Centre is rapidly expanding its research activities and is seeking highly motivated PhD candidates who wish to pursue research in close cooperation with our partners. Position Description: Successful candidates will join a strong and motivated research group led by Prof. Dr. Gilbert Fridgen. The group is made of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers coming from different technology-related disciplines to pursue leading edge research and to transfer the results into practice. Based on the broad variety of industries and sectors that are reshaped by digital transformation, successful candidates will have the opportunity to look into other research areas and design an individual research portfolio. As such, successful candidates will be able to align the skills that they learn pursuing a doctorate with their personal goals and interests. They will carry out research in the context of the SynErgie II Research Project (https://www.kopernikus-projekte.de/synergie). In SynErgie II, we analyze how the growing production fluctuation associated with an increasing share of renewables can be tackled by demand-side flexibility of industrial energy consumers. Thereby, we collaborate with a broad variety of partners from industry and research to design the future energy system. In particular, we focus on IT-based solutions for the energy system by building a corresponding platform for future flexibility trade. The goal is to develop a platform that allows electricity intensive companies to get access to markets for electricity and flexibility in order to use their assets to stabilize the energy system. The bandwidth of tasks therefore reaches from the modelling of industrial processes over the design of interfaces to the analysis of market's requirements for data exchange.
