Requirements: Candidates must have a PhD degree in a relevant area and have solid knowledge and experience in within the field of histology and design-based stereology including sampling techniques. Priority will be given to applicants with documented experience in the following areas: Fish reproductive physiology and functional anatomy; Histological techniques; Design-based stereology including sampling techniques

Apply online DTU Aqua’s Fish Biology Research Group generates new knowledge about developmental characteristics and physiological adaptation of fish throughout their life history. A particular focus area is research and application of modern technologies for quantitative studies aiming at obtaining new insights into species’ basic biology and population dynamics. We seek a motivated candidate for a part time position as postdoc in fish functional anatomy, who would rise to the challenge of further improving and up-scaling design-based stereology as a method for identifying reproductive strategies and quantifying fecundity as well as advancing our insights in the regulation of reproductive potential in teleost fishes. Research field Design-based stereology is a quantification method that allows a precise and unbiased estimate of the total number of objects in a well-defined region of interest. Unbiased stereology is recognised in biological research as the best-practice method for quantitative histology. You will contribute to advancing the field of stereology as a tool to assess reproductive strategy and fecundity of teleost fishes Responsibilities and tasks The responsibilities will include implementation of available tools as well as expansion methods for analysing and integrating data from scanned slides (digitalisation). The successful candidate will be joining an already established group, where support for conducting the histology and stereological analyses is available, and necessary data can be generated from our laboratories. Primary areas of responsibility: Adaptation of sampling methods and assessment of fecundity for targeted species, Atlantic cod and mackerel using design-based stereology. Evaluation of methodologies for fecundity assessment. Dissemination of research results to the scientific community, policy makers and industry. The postdoc will contribute to two new projects related to the population biology and stock management of mackerel in the North Sea and cod in the Baltic Sea, respectively. Qualifications Candidates must have a PhD degree in a relevant area and have solid knowledge and experience in within the field of histology and design-based stereology including sampling techniques.
