Position: Research Assistant in Crowd Analysis in Urban Railways

Duties: UCL Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (CEGE), is a multidisciplinary department with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Research Assistant in Crowd Analysis in Urban Railways to contribute to civil engineering fluids research; The Research Assistant in Crowd Analysis in Urban Railways position is part of the EPSRC-funded project COVID-19: Reducing the Risk of Transmission on London's transport. The postholder will develop strategies to simulate airflows and aerosol dispersion on Londons public transport vehicles using the method of large-eddy simulation. The postholder will carry out coding of various videos to understand people movements on Londons public transport systems, analyse the coded data, and where possible, develop models, and correlate the coded data with other operation data. The postholder will also contribute to the writing of journal and conference papers, to workshop and conference presentations, and to Departmental research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities as required; The appointment is for three and a half days a week (0.7FTE) and is available from 1 October 2020 until 13 January 2022 in the first instance
Requirements: The successful candidate will have a Masters degree in a field related to analytics of big data, in particular spatial or/and time-series data and experience in human behaviour analysis. Experience of research in transport, and experience in Python programming and Machine Learning are also essential. Knowledge of Londons public transport systems and experience in communication with Industry Partners would be an advantage
