Duties: Scientifically implementing a third-party-funded EMPIR project on optical isotope ratio spectroscopy (OIRS) in small molecules in the gas phase; Developing, investigating, improving and applying IR spectroscopic gas analytical procedures for quantifying isotope ratios; Adapting and programming analytical procedures; Characterizing OIRS spectrometers metrologically and developing a possible definition of an OIRS standard; designing and analyzing test routines; Investigating the traceability of 13 C/12 C, 18 O/17 O and 2 H/1 H OIRS-based ratio determination using the example of CO 2 and CH 4; performing comparison measurements; Determining molecule-related spectroscopic parameters; Supervising a technical work package
Requirements: You have completed university studies, and ideally obtained a doctorate in experimental physics or chemistry with an "A" grade (" Sehr Gut" in the German grading system) in the field of gas spectroscopy, ideally isotope ratio analysis, e.g. with semiconductor lasers; You have experimental experience in the field of laser/molecule spectroscopy in the MIR/NIR range; You have experience in several of the following fields: o isotope ratio measurements in gases, in particular CO 2 and CH 4; o metrological aspects of gas-phase spectroscopy; o experimental diode laser spectroscopy; o Python/LabView, especially for spectroscopic applications; o determining molecular spectral parameters; o measurement uncertainty analysis (in particular according to GUM); o handling gases (also hazardous substances) and working with the vacuum technique; o processing scientific tasks and managing third-party-funded projects (in particular EU projects); o cooperating and coordinating tasks in international projects; o managing third-party-funded projects; You have experimental skills and a flexible, autonomous, accurate, and analytical working style; You are a team player with excellent communication skills; You have a very good command of scientific and technical English, both spoken and written; You are willing to travel within the scope of your assignment

October 2020 The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science. In Department 3.4, Analytical Chemistry of the Gas Phase, of Division 3, we are looking for a scientist (physics/chemistry) specializing in laser spectroscopy to join us as soon as possible. This position is available on the basis of a 3-year fixed-term contract. You will be employed at our Braunschweig site. If further third-party funds can be raised as expected, a contract extension beyond the limits of the project may be possible. Depending on your personal qualifications, the remuneration may reach up to remuneration group 14 TVöD Bund. You may be given the opportunity to write a doctoral thesis.
