Position: Research/Higher Research Scientist - Quantum Software

Duties: The roles can be at different levels of seniority from Masters to Postdoctoral level, on a permanent contract basis. The research will be within the following areas: Development of condensed matter theory applications on quantum computers; Model design using machine learning techniques; Multiscale materials simulations, ranging from ab initio atomic scale simulations to continuum models; Collaborative work with experimental teams at NPL, quantum hardware companies and Universities
Requirements: You should have a Ph.D. or M.Sc. in computational physics, chemistry, mathematics or related subjects. Required skills vary across the roles, and you will need to demonstrate expertise in at least one and preferably more of the following areas: Development of algorithms and software for materials simulations and their application; Development of quantum computing algorithms and software; Machine learning techniques; Experience in the use of ab initio simulation software (e.g. Siesta, Quantum Espresso, Vasp); Device simulations

This is an opportunity for motivated individuals to join NPL’s Quantum Technologies Department within Ivan Rungger's team (https://www.npl.co.uk/people/ivan-rungger) to work in the Quantum Information Processing group in Teddington (London). The senior roles will also require excellent leadership and communications skills, since you will need to mentor those with less experience than you. Across all roles you will be expected to develop commercial and academic collaborations and support any bids we may be undertaking as well as propose your own bids. We ask that in your application you include a list of publications in your CV and provide a covering statement describing your background, key research accomplishments and how your skills match the position.
