Position: Professor (W3) of Physical Geography

Text: The Department of Geography of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Bonn invites applications for a tenured position as Professor (W3) of Physical Geography The position is to be filled by October 1, 2021. Candidates are required to have established an international standing as researchers in the field of vegetation and land use dynamics on a regional and global scale. Furthermore, a theoretical and methodological expertise in Earth Observation is essential. Candidates are expected to contribute actively to the sustainability research at the University of Bonn as well as the development of the departmental research area geomatics. Able to instruct in German and English, candidates are to cover the full range of physical geography and geomatics in teaching and to contribute to all Geography degree programs. The position demands excellent teaching skills and commitment as well as participation in academic management at all levels. Close cooperation within the Department of Geography, the Earth Sciences Division, the University of Bonn’s faculties and the Transdisciplinary Research Areas (e.g. Innovation and Technology for Sustainable Futures) is of special importance. Furthermore, we expect the new appointee to advance the development of the geoscientific network Geoverbund ABC/J (Aachen, Bonn, Cologne, Jülich) as well as to cooperate internationally. Candidates need to express the willingness to lead the interdisciplinary Center for Remote Sensing of Land Surfaces (ZFL) at the University of Bonn. Precondition for an appointment at W3 level is a post-doctoral qualification (or equivalent scholarly achievements).
