Position: Scientist in the field of silicon detectors

Duties: As a scientist in the field of silicon detectors development you will be placed in an active research environment at CERN doing fundamental research, which involves setting up and driving a research program with the aim to promote common points of interest and common activities in the domain. With your background in the field of solid-state detectors, you will perform applied research by creating, reinforcing and leveraging the relevant networks. You are also expected to liaise with UNIGE experts. During the three-year period with CERN, your main functions will be to initiate/create a group to pursue this mutually beneficial research line. You will more specifically: Define the research program; Promote the research line within the relevant communities; Raise funds for the execution of the research program; Promote applied physics findings/results in the field of solid-state detectors; There may be also an opportunity to engage in teaching activities at the particle-physics department (DPNC) of UNIGE to the extent compatible with your duties at CERN
Requirements: PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of experimental physics or a related field. Experience: Extensive post-doctoral experience in fundamental research in physics; A track record of innovative research in solid-state sensors and micro-electronics, recognised by international peer reviewed publications; Some experience in grant applications would be an advantage; Some experience or a keen interest in teaching students and participating in the education of new scientists would be an advantage

Job Description Introduction We are looking for a scientist in the field of silicon detectors to contribute to CERN’s strategic mission towards scientific excellence. CERN, take part!! The RCS Department of CERN is opening a position for a scientist working in the research field of silicon detectors. The goal is to bridge the gap between state-of-the-art technology in solid-state detectors, also profiting from the progress over the last decade, and the needs of the new generation of tracking detectors for fundamental-physics experiments. This position is for three years’ employment at CERN which, as part of a long-standing collaboration between CERN and the University of Geneva (“UNIGE”) in this field, may be followed by a three-year assignment as Associate Professor Suppléant at UNIGE. Technical competencies: Knowledge of modern technology in the field of pixelated detectors; Knowledge of modern micro-electronics design; Knowledge of state-of-the-art high-performance timing sensors; Knowledge of the technological progress in the field of particle and nuclear physics.
