Position: Senior Research Fellow in Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology (Laboratory Manager)

Duties: Applications are invited for this post providing support to the Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology Section in the Department of Chemistry, and to the Head of Section; The postholder will play a senior role in the overall activities of the Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology Section. This will include teaching duties encompassing demonstrating, tutoring and associated administrative tasks, and general laboratory management and enabling duties. The postholder will play a key role in the setting up, running and demonstrating of computational drug design practicals, and more generally in supporting the shift to online teaching in response to the Covid-19 crisis; The postholder will also play a key role in the research group of the Head of Section, including research in the chemical biology of constrained peptides, providing guidance for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows, laboratory management and the preparation of publications
Requirements: The successful candidate will have a PhD in Chemical Biology, Organic or Biological Chemistry or closely related subject, experience of a wide variety of techniques in biological chemistry, organic synthesis and molecular modelling, a good appreciation of safe working practices in organic laboratories, some experience of teaching at the undergraduate level, good communication skills in English and the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds

The postholder will play a senior role in the overall activities of the Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology Section. This will include teaching duties encompassing demonstrating, tutoring and associated administrative tasks, and general laboratory management and enabling duties. The post is a 12 month, 0.8 FTE fixed term appointment covering maternity leave. The start date is September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
