Position: Image analysis specialists/scientific programmers (2 positions)

Text: 365 Department Image Data Analysis Workplace MDC Berlin-Buch The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC) is a leading international biomedical research center with the goal of elucidating the molecular mechanisms of health and disease in order to create the basis for new therapies and diagnostic procedures. The MDC is a member of the largest scientific organization in Germany - the Helmholtz Association - and offers a stimulating and interactive research environment with the most modern infrastructure. Currently, 1,250 employees and approximately 500 guests work at the locations in Berlin-Buch and Berlin-Mitte. The Helmholtz Imaging Platform (HIP) is a new technology platform for imaging data in the Helmholtz Association, jointly hosted at MDC, Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) and Deutsches Elektronen-Synchotron (DESY). Imaging data are currently analyzed and processed with numerous software tools (ImageJ/Fiji, scikit-image, TensorFlow, Ilastik, ITK/VTK etc.) in a variety of computational environments (laptops, high performance clusters, cloud etc.). Advancements in imaging technologies continue to introduce new challenges in handling imaging data, such as big data and real-time processing. The MDC-HIP team, led by Dr. Kyle Harrington, is developing algorithms, data structures, and visualization tools that span the broad range of spatiotemporal scales and imaging modalities represented in research fields across the Helmholtz research community and beyond. Job Description Candidates will develop new, and extend existing, algorithms and tools to address current challenges, while ensuring that the resulting software can be applied in all relevant computational environments and across scales and modalities. The candidates will work in an active and open software community that has regular meetings and international hackathons. Resulting work is expected to be open source and can be published in conferences and journals within computer science or domain-specific venues.
