Position: Research Associate (Postdoc) in autonomous navigation on 5G connected aerial robots

Duties: The successful candidates will join the SpaceR group led by Prof. Miguel Olivares-Mendez. They will contribute to a multidisciplinary national project in aerial robots and 5G communications. The outcomes of this project are expected to be extended to autonomous navigation on space robotics. They will perform the following tasks: Research on Autonomous navigation for aerial robots in 5G urban environments focusing on the following topics: Cloud computing for autonomous navigation of 5G connected aerial robots; Robust situation awareness; Object detection and tracking; Obstacle detection and avoidance; Sensor fusion; Applications of 5G for aerial robots, e.g. dynamic geofencing and reliable BVLOS control; Develop real-time solutions using ROS; Setup and upgrade aerial robotics systems based on the requirements of the project; Establish a strong connection with the civil aviation national authority; Providing support in setting up and running experiments in the SnT Aerial Robotics Lab and outdoors environments; The position holder will be required to perform the following tasks: Researching the predefined areas; Participating in research proposal drafting and project deliverables; Collaborate in ongoing international and national projects; Disseminating results through scientific publications and conference presentations; Assisting in the organization of relevant workshops and demos
Requirements: Qualification: The candidate should possess a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or affine. With a proven record of accomplishment in the development and testing of autonomous navigation of aerial robots; Strong development skills in C++, python and ROS; Experience with sensor fusion, optimization and state estimation; Expert on autonomous navigation; Hands-on aerial robot setup and maintenance; Commitment, team working and a critical mind; Experience with European projects (FP7/H2020), national projects and industrial projects; Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required
