Position: Master Thesis „mmWave Multiband Channel Sounding Using a Software-Defined Radio Platform“

Requirements: Ongoing Master's studies in electrical engineering, telecommunication engineering, computer science or similar; Solid knowledge in digital signal processing, the description of linear systems, and modulation formats. Good knowledge of Matlab, desirable C/C, LabView, Python; Ability to integrate in a multinational research team; Very good knowledge of either German or English (fluent in spoken and written)

Our Center for Digital Safety & Security in Vienna invites applications for a: Master Thesis „mmWave Multiband Channel Sounding Using a Software-Defined Radio Platform“ Security & Communication Technologies mmWave communication systems in the frequency band above 30GHz offer a large amount of available bandwidth. At the same time the attenuation of mmWave radio signals require new methods to establish reliable communication links especially to and from moving vehicles. In this master thesis you will work on extending and adding new features to a state-of-the-art channel sounder and perform multi-band measurements at 3.5, 30 and 60 GHz in a static and mobile setting. The measurement campaign will be carried out in cooperation with TU Wien and TU Brno . The measurement results will be characterized in terms of delay-Doppler characteristics and matching properties at different bands shall be identified. You will optimize and extend existing Software in Labview and do performance measurements of the AIT channel sounder. You will design mounting equipment for mobile measurements. You will apply advanced signal processing techniques to analyze features of wireless propagation channels with AIT’s extensive processing framework at different frequency bands. You will gain experience in the area of Wireless Communications and will increase your knowledge in a cutting-edge topic. You will train scientific working and will have the opportunity to discuss about various experiences, methods & techniques with scientific experts.
