Position: Master Thesis „Performance analysis and improvement of an analytical Ray Tracer“

Duties: You will perform literature research on current available scientific Ray Tracers, and you will provide a critical review; You will identify possible performance bottlenecks in the existing Ray Tracer; You will learn about scientific ray tracing and its research topics and fundamental limits; You will improve the performance of the existing Ray Tracer and implement post processing of obtained channel impulse responses
Requirements: Ongoing Master's studies in electrical engineering, telecommunication engineering, computer science, applied mathematics or similar; Solid knowledge in digital signal processing, the description of linear systems, and modulation formats; Good knowledge of C/C, CUDA, desirable MATLAB; Ability to integrate in a multinational research team; Very good knowledge of either German or English (fluent in spoken and written)

Our Center for Digital Safety & Security in Vienna invites applications for a: Master Thesis „Performance analysis and improvement of an analytical Ray Tracer“ Security & Communication Technologies In our Competence Unit "Security & Communication Technologies", the research topic " Physical Layer Security " plays a significant role - We are investigating new methods to exploit physical properties of optical and wireless communication media to ensure safety and security. As Ray tracing is an important method to evaluate the properties of wireless wave propagation in different environments, AIT has developed an advanced ray tracer for mobile scenarios with diffuse propagation. One major goal of this master thesis is to evaluate the performance of this realistic Ray Tracer using GPGPU computing and the NVIDIA OptiX framework. You will perform literature research on current available scientific Ray Tracers, and you will provide a critical review. You will identify possible performance bottlenecks in the existing Ray Tracer. You will learn about scientific ray tracing and its research topics and fundamental limits. You will improve the performance of the existing Ray Tracer and implement post processing of obtained channel impulse responses. You will gain experience in the area of Wireless Communications and will increase your knowledge and experience in a cutting-edge topic. You will train scientific working and will have the opportunity to discuss about various experiences, methods & techniques with scientific experts.
