Position: Cyber Security Scientist

Duties: The Advanced Research in Cyber Systems group (A-4) provides nationally recognized leadership in information security and networking science that predicts and solves critical problems in the cyber domain using novel practical solutions. We are looking for a Scientist with expertise in one or more of the following areas to join the group and support our core capabilities: security of cyber/physical systems such as SCADA networks and ICS, IOT and IIOT security; cyber analytics; predictive analytics; encryption; malware analysis; anomaly detection or machine learning in a cybersecurity context; and/or collecting and analyzing cyber data at scale
Requirements: A degree in electrical engineering, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related discipline; Minimum of 3 years of cyber-related experience for a Scientist 2, or 5+ years for a Scientist 3; Experience and knowledge of control systems; Experience with HDL coding and FPGAs; Experience coding in a rapidly evolving research environment; Experience teaching cyber security classes and developing content for cyber security training events; Experience working on cyber initiatives and incidents with DOE HQ and other DOE labs; Experience working with government funding agencies and federal program managers; Active Q and SCI clearances

The Advanced Research in Cyber Systems group (A-4) provides nationally recognized leadership in information security and networking science that predicts and solves critical problems in the cyber domain using novel practical solutions. We are looking for a Scientist with expertise in one or more of the following areas to join the group and support our core capabilities: security of cyber/physical systems such as SCADA networks and ICS, IOT and IIOT security; cyber analytics; predictive analytics; encryption; malware analysis; anomaly detection or machine learning in a cybersecurity context; and/or collecting and analyzing cyber data at scale. Scientist 2 ($91,800 - $151,400)As a Scientist 2, you will work as part of a diverse team in a collaborative and multidisciplinary technical and research environment. Use your cyber security and data analytics expertise to expand and evolve A-4’s core capabilities, provide technical guidance across the laboratory and DOE, contribute to group goal setting and overall direction, and pursue future funding and initiatives. You will brief peers and management on cyber issues and work with cyber staff across the laboratory. Scientist 3 ($101,000 - $168,600)In addition to what is outlined above, as a Scientist 3 you will take on leadership roles and participate in cyber security research and initiatives across the greater scientific community, as well as mentor junior staff within the laboratory. You will also take leadership in identifying, promoting, and developing appropriate new Laboratory-wide technical capabilities.What You Need Minimum Job Requirements Technical Experience/ExpertiseExperience and expertise in one or more of the following areas: operational cyber security, security of cyber/physical systems such as SCADA networks and ICS, IOT and IIOT security, development of simulation or emulation for cyber/physical systems, intrusion detection, penetration testing, computer forensics, cyber analysis, encryption, malware analysis, anomaly detection or machine learning in a cybersecurity context, and/or collecting and analyzing cyber data at scale.Understanding of the current ICS/SCADA cyber best practices based on the current cyber threat environment to anticipate future activities.Experience programming with Python, C, C++, and/or Go programming languages in combination with a demonstrated foundation of computer science algorithms, data structures, and network programming (e.g. sockets, clients, servers).Research & CollaborationDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary teams, participate in research grant proposals, develop and present new technical capabilities, and set direction and accomplish goals to meet project deliverables. Education/Experience for a higher level: Requires an advanced degree in science from an accredited college or university.
