Position: Postdoctoral Position with Community Housing Canada (Human Geography)

Duties: Community Housing Canada is directed by Professor Damian Collins in the Human Geography Program (Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences) at the University of Alberta. The successful candidate will work with Professor Collins’ research cluster to foster understanding and support operationalization of a human rights-based approach to community housing. They will also contribute significantly to the work of at least one other research cluster, to be determined based on need, and the skills and interests of the candidate
Requirements: PhD in a relevant social science, including but not restricted to Human Geography, Planning, Political Science or Sociology; Emerging record of publications, including in peer-reviewed journals; Strong interest in housing and human rights, both within Canada and internationally; Proficient knowledge and understanding of public policy, and approaches to policy analysis; Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to develop research initiatives from initial planning to successful completion; Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills, as required to work within a partnership and to develop effective reports and publications; Interest in contributing to the training of students

Community Housing Canada is a research partnership within a Canada-wide collaboration of academics and community partners: The Collaborative Housing Research Network. The network is a joint initiative between the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The mandate of Community Housing Canada is to work with and for the community housing sector to create and mobilize knowledge that contributes to its sustainability and resilience. Our partnership is built around six research clusters, each with specific objectives. Collectively, we seek to bolster the community housing sector so that it can better meet the needs of the 1 in 8 Canadian households who require assistance in realizing their right to housing. The starting salary for this position is $45,000 per annum. Supplementary health benefits will also be provided. This position is available from August 2020 and the appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension for a second year.
