Duties: The University of Kansas Chemical and Petroleum Engineering department is seeking a well-qualified post-doctoral research associate to support a DOE sponsored research project focused in the area of membrane science and separations. The successful candidate will possess excellent experimental and analytical skills as well as strong oral and written communication abilities
Requirements: Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related discipline; Strong research history in a field or fields related to aforementioned research areas; Demonstrated effective written communication skills as evidenced through application materials; Demonstrated work history as a member of a research team as evidenced through application materials

The successful candidate will possess excellent experimental and analytical skills as well as strong oral and written communication abilities.Job Description60% Research - Design and execution of experimentsAnalyze membrane samples using analytical techniques including but not limited: to GC-FID and -MS, NMR, SEM, TEM, and optical microscopyDesign and construct new laboratory membrane modules with a specific focus on translation of scaling up thin films to hollow-fiber bench scale modulesSet up and operate high and low-pressure membrane test systems20% Reporting - Write reports and Oral PresentationsWrites technical reports and scientific papers for peer reviewed journalsPresent oral and written technical results to industry partners to convey scientific progressAssist in writing grant proposals to achieve funding goals for future research15% Collaboration - Assist other laboratory members with experimentsAssist the principal investigator to provide experimental and technical supervision of one or more graduate studentsTrain new graduate students and research personnel on experimental methodsMentor and train undergraduate students conducting research projectsManage adjacent seed projects with undergraduate researchers in the fields of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and separations5% Laboratory protocol - Routine lab managementDevelop standard operating procedures and safety protocols for laboratoryEnsuring systems are in place for efficient planning of lab supplies, records and document managementRequired QualificationsPh.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related disciplineStrong research history in a field or fields related to aforementioned research areasDemonstrated effective written communication skills as evidenced through application materialsDemonstrated work history as a member of a research team as evidenced through application materialsNOTE: To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD conferred at the time of hire. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an interim basis not to exceed 6-months.
