Duties: Molecule-based single-photon emitters are to be investigated as to their suitability as sources for radiometry of small photon fluxes. for this purpose, the existing measurement facility is to be adapted to the needs of the emitter and optimized. Moreover, the sources will have to be characterized metrologically using this measurement facility; Enhancing existing measurement facilities; Developing new sample preparation procedures; Performing and assessing measurements; Presenting the results at project meetings and scientific congresses in Germany and abroad; elaborating scientific publications; Preparing samples of single-photon emitters
Requirements: You have completed university studies in biosystems technology with the grade good; You have pronounced experimental skills; You are familiar with setting up optical apparatus; You have experience in developing preparation procedures for single-photon emitters; You have programming skills for data analysis (MATLAB, etc.); A sound knowledge of and experience in the following fields are an advantage: spectroscopy, microscopy, optics and chemistry; handling hazardous substances; characterizing single-photon emitters metrologically; fundamentals of metrology, data analysis, and measurement uncertainty determination; You have a proven ability to work autonomously and on your own responsibility; you have a well-structured working style; You have outstanding communication skills and enjoy working in a team; You have a very good command of both spoken and written German and English; You are willing to travel within Germany and abroad within the scope of your assignment

June 2020 The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science. In Department 4.5, Applied Radiometry, of Division 4, we are looking for a doctoral candidate specializing in natural sciences to join us as of 1 September 2020. This position is available on the basis of a 3-year fixed-term contract. You will be employed at our Braunschweig site. The remuneration will be paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund (85 %).
