Position: Mathematics Success Coach

Duties: Tutor students in preparatory, algebra, and quantitative reasoning courses, and assist them in the Math Lab; Administer tests to students and help with placement of students into correct courses; Assist the Math Lab Manager with tracking and reporting student progress to stakeholders; Maintain an appointment calendar to meet regularly with students needing prescribed assistance; Assist the Math Lab Manager with notifying students who fall behind in their work and making appropriate referrals to applicable student support services; Teach preparatory math course sections, as needed; Work closely and communicate regularly with the Math Lab Manager, Mathematics & Statistics Department faculty, Academic Advisors, the Title III Grant Coordinator, and Success Coaches
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or related field such as accounting, actuarial science, engineering, physics, etc; Experience teaching or tutoring mathematics at the high school or college; Demonstrated experience in math content, including developmental math, quantitative reasoning, and college algebra; Evidence of working effectively with diverse populations and/or students with varying levels of academic; Proven ability to work as a collegial member of a team

This position is a full-time (40-hour work week) 9-month non-tenure track appointment, with the possibility of additional compensation for summer work. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Washburn University is dedicated to the highest level of instruction. General Statement of Duties: The Math Learning Lab is a drop-in tutoring center at Washburn University housed in Mabee Library. The Mathematics Success Coach (Coach), a faculty member within the Mathematics & Statistics Department, will assist students in the lab with homework, computerized lessons/assessments, and exam preparation for developmental and beginning college-level mathematics. The Coach will oversee student study plans in concert with course instructors and the Math Lab Manager for a variety of mathematic classes. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in mathematics or related field such as accounting, actuarial science, engineering, physics, etc. Experience using online homework systems such as Pearson’s MyMathLab and Hawkes Learning Application Procedures: Application review will begin June 1, 2020 and continue until the position is filled.
