Position: Research Officer NZWRI

Duties: The New Zealand Work Research Institute contributes to high-quality research (at both the national and international level) regarding people and work, with respect to labour market dynamics; employment relations; wellbeing and performance; diversity in the workplace; health and work; and the role of technology. Our research groups engage over 70 research experts to provide research that ticks the boxes for both academic rigour, as well as being relevant to policy makers in business, government, and the community in general. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a team-based setting and will contribute to our funded research projects using the Integrated Data Infrastructure
Requirements: A post-graduate qualification in Economics or another relevant quantitative discipline (eg, data science, epidemiology, statistics); Strong empirical skills and experience using large linked administrative datasets and/or large-scale surveys; Interest in labour/health/education/urban related topics; Highly competent using econometric software, such as Stata, SQL, R, etc

Our research groups engage over 70 research experts to provide research that ticks the boxes for both academic rigour, as well as being relevant to policy makers in business, government, and the community in general. We place emphasis on a collaborative approach and rank engagement with external stakeholders as a high priority. The Institute also provides commissioned work for a range of external clients, with recent examples including work for Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Productivity Commission, Ministry for Women, and the Human Rights Commission. Our current research projects focus on utilising NZ's population-wide administrative database (the Integrated Data Infrastructure) - which houses microdata about people and households, sourced from government agencies, as well as Statistics NZ surveys. We are seeking a Research Officer for a two-year fixed-term appointment. The candidate must have: A post-graduate qualification in Economics or another relevant quantitative discipline (eg, data science, epidemiology, statistics)Strong empirical skills and experience using large linked administrative datasets and/or large-scale surveysInterest in labour/health/education/urban related topicsHighly competent using econometric software, such as Stata, SQL, R, etc. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a team-based setting and will contribute to our funded research projects using the Integrated Data Infrastructure. You will be working closely with a core team of researchers led by the Institute Director, Professor Gail Pacheco. Professor Pacheco was awarded the 2019 University Medal, which is AUT's top award, in recognition of her exceptional academic achievement. She was also the 2018 recipient of the prestigious NZIER Economics Award. This annual award seeks to highlight outstanding contributions to the advancement of economics and its applications in New Zealand.
