Position: Data Scientist

Duties: We are looking for a data scientist to accelerate scientific cancer related research. A strong candidate will join us in our use of big data in cancer research and patient care to discover better therapies for cancer patients, improve patient outcomes, reduce health care disparities, and optimize precision medicine. A strong candidate will have experience leading the data wrangling and design of algorithms and models to predict and solve healthcare related problems. Experience working with natural language processing algorithms for the purpose of data extraction is a desired skill. A strong candidate will be able to work with different departments across the university to leverage various data sources stored at the university’s data warehouse and huntsman cancer institute and develop a framework that can be reused for ML related cancer research
Requirements: Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Medical Informatics, Applied Mathematics or related field, or a bachelor’s degree in those fields plus substantial data science work experience; Strong knowledge of machine learning algorithms; Demonstrate knowledge of medical informatics, data warehouse; Experience with data analytic and machine learning environments R, Python; Experience with Big Data and data warehouse infrastructures; Demonstrate experience in devising complex algorithms; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Apply deep learning and other machine learning techniques to various research problems in cancer research; Demonstrate experience programing to clean and transform data and build predictive modeling with measured results programming in R or python

Responsibilities Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to develop and design algorithms such as predicting outcomes, treatment responses, and patient phenotype classification (cohort identification). Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and 6-8 years of related experience in the field or related area is required. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.
