Brown Career Site Skip to main content Brown Career Site Biostatistician 121 South Main Street Job Description: Job Description - The Biostatistician for COBRE Center for Central Nervous System Function will use statistical and computational skills to facilitate the design, conduct, and analysis of a variety of research projects that will be run through the Design and Analysis Core of the COBRE. The Biostatistician will conduct design and analysis for research projects independently for routine experiments, and will implement innovative analysis under the supervision of Core faculty. Duties include: assisting project leaders design experiments, managing data, statistical programming and analysis, implementing new methodology identified by or developed at the Core, preparing analysis reports for interpretation and publication. The biostatistician will function as a Core team member and participate in Core meetings. The Biostatistician will contribute to the authorship of manuscripts and may become part of study teams if served researchers receive grant funding. The Biostatistician will be based primarily at the School of Public Health, Center for Statistical Sciences, and will also work in Core related sites in close proximity to the project leaders and other researchers affiliated with the COBRE. Qualifications: Education Required: Masters degree in quantitative field with appropriate statistical coursework and 1-3 years of experience or combination of extensive statistical training and experience is required to be considered for the Level 10E position; Masters degree in quantitative field with appropriate statistical coursework and 4-6 years of experience is required to be considered for the Level 11E position. Preferred: PhD degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or Biometry Experience Experience in implementing novel statistical techniques Experience in statistical software development Familiar with high performance computing and parallel computing Job Competencies Familiar with a variety of advanced statistical concepts and a demonstrable proficiency in standard statistical techniques. Advanced knowledge of a major statistical software package (R, SAS, or Stata). Experience computing in both a Windows and UNIX environment is desirable. Advanced training in biostatistical methods. Must work effectively on multiple projects at the same time and learn complex technical concepts. Proficient in managing and manipulating data (variable creation, data checking, etc.) Excellent judgment and ability to work independently.
