Duties: The post holder will be specifically responsible for taking a central role with trial set up/close out activities, processing amendments, maintenance of portfolio databases, monitoring participant screening and recruitment, management of the clinical trial data, ensuring timely data collection and query resolution, and for conducting clinical assessments (where possible) resulting in high quality clinical data in line with the study protocol. The appointee will be encouraged to develop more clinical or basic research that will contribute to a higher education degree such as PhD, depending on satisfactory progress
Requirements: The successful candidate will be, or be eligible to be, a registered medical practitioner licensed to practise in the UK, and have post qualification experience in Neurology and MRCP or equivalent. Applicants should have experience in clinical and/or basic science research and a very high level of consideration and care for patients. A methodical approach to gathering and documenting data, excellent oral and written communications skills, strong problem solving abilities and excellent organisational skills are all essential. A GCP research qualification, experience in a research project and/or writing a paper, of previous presentations at national or international conferences and evidence of previous publications are desirable; An Honorary clinical contract will be sought from associated NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required

The post holder will join the research team at the Ataxia Centre UCL for the NICOFA trial, a European multi-centre trial which will test the effect of nicotinamide (Vitamin B3) in patients with Friedreichs Ataxia (FA). This follows the success of the pilot trial, in which for the first time nicotinamide, an HDAC inhibitor, was able to address the upstream mechanism in FA showing an increased levels of frataxin in 10 patients. The post is available immediately and is funded by an NIHR grant, initially for two years in the first instance.
