Position: Electrical technician for HL-LHC

Duties: Under the technical supervision of a CERN technician, you will be mainly involved in the design and fabrication of mechanical components and tooling, and the execution of qualification tests of the components. During this activity, you will have the opportunity of learning about cryogenic testing with LN2, leak detection making use of helium spectrometry, and electrical testing (continuity and isolation tests). You will also learn how to perform delicate mechanical assemblies and the put in place the necessary QA procedures for the qualification of the components before they are mounted in the cryostats. In the manufacture of the plugs, he will be involved with gluing and plastic injection techniques, and their qualification at cryogenic temperatures
Requirements: In order to qualify for a place on the programme you will need to meet the following requirements: You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State; You have an Electrical Technical Diploma or equivalent, and no more than 4 years'relevant experience after finishing your diploma; If you are currently studying, you are still eligible to apply, although you are expected to have obtained your qualification by the start of your appointment at CERN; If you hold a BSc or MSc, you are not eligible. The M agnets, Superconductors and Cryostats group of the Technology Department has the mandate to design, build and measure superconducting and normal conducting Magnets for the CERN accelerator complex. In addition, the group provides support to operation of the accelerators for magnets, magnet performance, devices Joining the Cryostat and Machine Integration section (CMI), you will contribute to the preparation of electrical components for the electrical supply devices DF and DCM for HL LHC. More specifically, you will work on the Instrumentation Feedthroughs System (IFS) for the DFX device and the hydraulic plugs for the DCM module connecting to the magnets. Specific skills required for this job: Experience in manufacturing methods, mechanical machining and assembly techniques. Good knowledge with electrical circuits and testing will be beneficial.
