Duties: The Sainsbury Wellcome Centre (SWC) brings together world-leading scientists to investigate how brain circuits process information to generate perception, form memories and guide behaviour; The Centre is now looking for an Animal Technician to join our close-knit team and support animal husbandry, care and welfare within the SWC Neurobiological Research Facility (NRF), the Centre's in-house animal unit. You will work on your own initiative to provide day-to-day care of the animals including maintaining their environment and keeping accurate records including in relation to breeding. This is a great opportunity to join a team with progression opportunities and you will be provided with formal and on-the-job training to support your own personal and professional development; The nature of this role means that you will be required to work outside of standard office hours to meet the needs of the animals; this will include working one in three weekends and occasional unsociable hours
Requirements: Experience in animal care and welfare in a research environment, an understanding of cage/animal bio-security and experience of transgenic breeding are essential. Great communication and team working skills are key as is the ability to work on your own initiative and unsupervised on a daily basis. Youll also be computer literate with excellent attention to detail. Formal training in the form of an IAT qualification and a Home Office Personal License are desirable
