Text: Research Fellow, - Ref:1860283 Click here to go back to search results Apply Now UCL Department / Division UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology Specific unit / Sub department Department of Neurodegenerative Disease Location of position London Grade 7 Hours Full Time Salary (inclusive of London allowance) £35,965 to £38,993 per annum Duties and Responsibilities We are seeking a Research Fellow to join the group of Professor Helene Plun-Favreau. This position is based within the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease, which is recognised as internationally leading in the study of neurodegenerative diseases causing dementia and related disorders, ( https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ion/research/departments/neurodegenerative-disease/people/dr-helene-plun-favreaus-group ). The post holder will be working on a project to identify the molecular mechanisms by which two new Parkinsons disease risk genes, identified in the Plun-Favreau lab, play a role in mitophagy/mitochondrial quality control. The successful candidate will use cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry and microscopy techniques to dissect the mode of action of these two genes in human cell lines and in rodent embryonic neurons. The post is available from 1 March 2020 and is funded by a grant from the Michael J Fox Foundation until 31 August 2021 in the first instance. Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £31,479 - £33,194 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis. If the PhD has not yet been granted, the final accepted version of the thesis must have been submitted to the degree-granting university by the start date in post.
