Position: Scientific Collaborator in Epidemiology (60-80%)

Duties: We are seeking a Scientific Collaborator to join an interdisciplinary team studying the interlinks of natural resource extraction and health-related targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) 2030 agenda. The Scientific Collaborator will be part of a research team that aims to generate an evidence-base at the national and local level on the strengths and limitations of current impact assessment practice in Africa in engaging natural resource extraction projects to work towards health-related targets of the SDG 2030 agenda. The candidate will be a key team member, collaborating with PhD students from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mozambique, Switzerland and Tanzania. We are looking for a researcher at the postdoctoral level with interest in public health-related interdisciplinary research in low-income countries
Requirements: PhD in Epidemiology or (bio)Statistics with interest in areas of epidemiology and public; Strong quantitative and analytical skills; Ability to work independently and as part of a large project team; Proven track-record in scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals; Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English. French language skills are an asset; Solid skills in (bio)statistics, geographic information systems (GIS) and data management are an asset; Previous knowledge of Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) or DHIS2 data is useful, but not essential
   
Text: The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, services, and education and training at the local, national and international level. About 850 people from more than 80 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions. The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH), within Swiss TPH, develops and applies epidemiological, statistical and mathematical methods to advance innovation, validation and application in the field of public health. Within the Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Research Group we are recruiting a committed and enthusiastic: Scientific Collaborator in Epidemiology (60-80%) Your responsibilities include: We are seeking a Scientific Collaborator to join an interdisciplinary team studying the interlinks of natural resource extraction and health-related targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) 2030 agenda. The Scientific Collaborator will be part of a research team that aims to generate an evidence-base at the national and local level on the strengths and limitations of current impact assessment practice in Africa in engaging natural resource extraction projects to work towards health-related targets of the SDG 2030 agenda. The candidate will be a key team member, collaborating with PhD students from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mozambique, Switzerland and Tanzania. We are looking for a researcher at the postdoctoral level with interest in public health-related interdisciplinary research in low-income countries. The candidate will play an important in supporting the HIA Research Group in the ongoing research activities. This will include the provision of analytical and statistical support to PhD students, contributing to the development of peer-reviewed publications and potentially also leading own research papers. Duties will also include cleaning and compiling large datasets of health indicators, performing data quality checks. You should have the following experiences and skills: PhD in Epidemiology or (bio)Statistics with interest in areas of epidemiology and public Strong quantitative and analytical skills Ability to work independently and as part of a large project team Proven track-record in scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English. French language skills are an asset.
