Requirements: You have completed your university studies ("Master" or German "Diplom") in electrical engineering, applied physics, technical informatics or in a comparable natural or engineering science with at least the German grade "gut" ("good"); You have experimental skills as well as attested experience in experimental research work; You have good knowledge of high frequency and high-frequency metrology; Good knowledge and background knowledge in the field of telecommunication and communications engineering are of advantage; You have experience in setting up measuring station controls and in assessing measurement data, and you have programming skills; You have experience in the field of numerical simulations; You have pronounced communication skills and you are a team player; You are able to carry out scientific work independently; You have a very good command of spoken and written English; You are physically able to work in a laboratory; You are willing to go on business trips within Germany and abroad

February 2020 The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science. Department 2.2 "High Frequency and Electromagnetic Fields" of Division 2 is looking for a doctoral candidate specializing in electrical engineering, applied physics, technical informatics or in a comparable natural or engineering science to join it as soon as possible. This position is limited to 2.5 years. You will be employed at our Braunschweig site. The remuneration will be paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund. Your tasks: In the DFG research group FOR 2862 "Metrology for THz Communications (Meteracom)", which consists of ten different subprojects, PTB together with university partners (especially of TU Braunschweig) and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in the UK will be exploring the traceability of measurements to transfer standards. Research work includes developing methods to characterize the measurement systems themselves as well as the communication system components, including the transmission channel.
