Text: UniversitàdellaSvizzeraitalianaInstitute of Oncology ResearchIORAn institute affiliated to USIA Four-year Postdoctoral fellowship In the Molecular Oncology group directed by Prof. Andrea Alimonti at the IOR - Institute of Oncology Research in Bellinzona, Switzerland (www.ior.usi.ch)A 4-year postdoctoral fellowship is available from September1st, 2019in the lab of Prof. Andrea Alimonti at IOR (www.alimontilab.com) to study the role of tumor-infiltrating myeloid cells in prostate cancer and to develop novel effective immunotherapies for the treatment of prostate cancer. The Alimonti lab works on cancer immunology, in particular on the role played by tumor-infiltrating myeloid cells in cancer initiation, progression and treatment resistance (e.g.Di Mitri et al., Nature 2014; Toso et al, Cell Rep 2014; Calcinotto et al, Nature 2018). The successful candidate will be part of an ongoing effort to identify and target novel regulators of myeloid cells recruitment and function. The recruited postdoc will use different approaches (FACs analysis, RNAseq, proteomics, metabolomics) and drug screenings to identify genes pathways that sustain the recruitment, function, and survival of myeloid cells. In parallel, s he/he will generate novel mouse models to understand if and how myeloid cells control prostate tumor development. We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with outstanding training in cancer immunology or basic immunology to join an established, multicultural group of 15 talented scientists coming from 5 different countries. Experience with in vivo cancer models would be considered a plus. We require at least one major first-author original research publication, the ability to drive discovery by working independently, interacting with colleagues with different backgrounds and establishing the relevant collaborations. The IOR is part of the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI)and offers state-of-the-art labs and facilities, a thriving environment, an exciting research project and multiple occasions of interaction with world leaders in the fields of cancer, basic immunology, and cancer immunology (see International PhD Program). We foster professional growth of postdoctoral associates: out of 4 past fellows, 3 secured independent PI positions in Europe, and in Switzerland. Bellinzona is a beautiful city and it is close to the city of Lugano where in collaboration with ETH, the USI has recently set up a Faculty of Biomedicine that offers new exciting possibility of carrier development. Moreover, the city of Milan is just 1 hour away from Bellinzona. Salary will follow the standard of IOR postdoctoral fellow salary scale that is in line with the rest of Switzerland.
