Experience working in or with industry is considered as an advantage. Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Text: UOL03066 28-Feb-2020 Company Text Doctoral Candidate (PhD student) position in Robust Machine Learning in Financial Applications The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) invites applications from PhD candidates in the general area of machine learning and FinTech. SnT is carrying out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services, often in collaboration with industrial, governmental or international partners. The Centre is rapidly expanding its research activities and is seeking highly motivated PhD candidates who wish to pursue research in close cooperation with our partners. Ref: 50015400 Initial contract of 14 months, renewable up to 36 months, with a further possible 1-year extension if required. Number of positions: 1 Start date: between 1 st of February and 1 st of September 2020, upon agreement. Employee and student status Your Role Position Description: As the successful candidate, you will join the Security, Reasoning and Validation (SeRVal) group of the SnT, headed by Prof. Yves Le Traon. You will contribute more specifically to a partnership project with the BGL BNP PARIBAS Data Science Lab. The topic of the project is “Robust Machine Learning in Financial Applications” and it concerns the design of methods to assess and improve the robustness of machine learning models against intentional and unintentional defects. The project investigates means of monitoring continuously the model to detect significant deviations in its behaviour and identify their root causes. It also aims to deploy appropriate countermeasures to prevent any harm caused by those deviations. The project is held in close collaboration with BGL and, as the successful candidate, you will be expected to spend an appreciable amount of your time in their Luxembourgish premises (located in Luxembourg city, Kirchberg).
