Duties: In order to support the increasing digital transformation of the economy and of society, traceability needs to be established for new measurement quantities for future communication systems. In the DFG research group for 2862 "Metrology for THz Communications (Meteracom)", which consists of ten different subprojects, PTB together with university partners (especially of TU Braunschweig) and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in the UK will be exploring the traceability of measurements and calibration standards. Research work includes developing methods to characterize the measurement systems themselves as well as the communication system components, including the transmission channel; The subproject T "Traceability - Parametric Measures and Metrological Traceability for Functionality of Communication Systems" includes the following tasks: Developing concepts for metrological traceability; Developing calibration standards for channel sounders and optical sampling systems; Characterization of figures of merit of optical sampling systems, of time and frequency domain waveforms and of pre-distortion and filtering; Elaborating scientific publications and participating in international conferences; Coordinating work and collaborating with the project partners; Writing project reports and presenting the results
Requirements: You have completed university studies (Master's or German Diplom ) in electrical engineering, applied physics, computer engineering or in a comparable field of natural or engineering sciences with a grade that is at least comparable to the German grade "gut" (" good; You have experimental skills as well as attested experience in experimental research work; You have a sound knowledge of high frequency and high-frequency metrology; Ideally, you have a sound knowledge and background knowledge in the field of telecommunication and communications engineering; You are familiar with setting up measuring station controls and assessing measurement data; you have programming skills; You are familiar with numerical simulations; You are able to carry out scientific work independently; You have excellent communication skills and are a team player; You have a very good command of spoken and written English; You are physically able to work in a laboratory; You are willing to travel within Germany and abroad for business purposes and to spend a longer period of time at NPL (United Kingdom) as a guest researcher
