The new Director will lead the department and continue the development and growth of our ground-breaking teaching, research and engagement. The Director will bring world-leading interdisciplinary expertise to the department; lead Arts and Sciences at UCL; and develop further our interdisciplinary pedagogy, theory and practice, enhancing the Programmes work in all areas (research, teaching, administration and knowledge exchange). The Director will: Promote and develop UCLs vision of Arts and Sciences worldwide and contribute intellectual and academic leadership to the department in the wider UCL community and beyond. Strengthen the BAScs profile in knowledge exchange by linking strategically with key external partners such as SMEs, NGOs, government, industry and community. Provide imaginative and inspiring teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and develop new teaching initiatives. Have or develop an international research profile which is recognised and valued by a wide range of stakeholders, from scholars through to the creative industries. Key Requirements The Director will be committed to broad areas of knowledge in sciences/engineering and humanities/social sciences, be intellectually generous across the range of human knowledge, and have a hybrid personal educational background. Further, they will have an interest in interdisciplinarity, especially with respect to interdisciplinary pedagogy, curriculum design and course management. They will be deeply committed to student learning across disciplines, engaged in conversations about the purpose of higher education in the 21st century and interested in the wider student experience, including relationship-building with individual students, representative student bodies and alumni. The successful candidate may have a national and international research profile. The successful candidate will be expected to be involved in the co-ordination and delivery of the departments Core modules ( http://www.ucl.ac.uk/basc/current/core ). S/he will also be expected to continue developing and growing the departments research profile through publications and public engagement and to assist with marketing and recruitment activities such as Admissions, Open Days and Widening Participation events. Additional duties will include: delivering tutorials/supervisions and the provision of pastoral care and support to under/graduate students and the undertaking of an administrative role such as undergraduate admissions.
