The Institute of Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the University of Graz encompasses the research groups algebra, applied analysis, high performance computing, inverse problems and imaging, optimisation and optimal control, and stochastics. Research and teaching at the institute feature two doctoral courses, participation in two special research programmes, several contractual research projects as well as joint bachelor's and master's programmes with the Graz University of Technology and a Centre for Didactics. At the Institute of Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the University of Graz is seeking to appoint a Professor of Algebra (40 hours per week; selection procedure in accordance with Section 99 (1) of the Universities Act (UG); fixed-term employment according to the Salaried Employees Act (AngG) until 30.09.2023; expected starting date December 1st 2019; Substitute worker) The future post holder should represent the field of algebra in research and teaching and be internationally recognised by outstanding research results. We are looking for a personality with a research focus on a current branch of algebra who will be able to connect with the existing research group 'Algebra and Number Theory' at the Institute of Mathematics and Scientific Computing. The successful candidate is expected to participate appropriately in the teaching functions of the institute. In particular, it is necessary to contribute to the teacher training programme and in the master's programm 'Mathematics', which is jointly organised with the Graz University of Technology. Employment requirements: • Austrian or equivalent foreign higher education degree corresponding with the position (doctorate/PhD) • Habilitation or equivalent qualification in Mathematics • Outstanding academic qualifications in research and teaching in the relevant discipline (commensurate with stage of academic career) • Skills in higher education didactics • Gender mainstreaming skills • Skills in attracting subject-specific project grants • Professional experience abroad during the academic career • Management and leadership experience (desirable) • Excellent command of German and English The successful candidate will be highly motivated, aiming for academic excellence and integrity in research and teaching.
