The position is within DTU’s strategy on enzyme technology and specifically targets the synthesis of oligosaccharides having potential benefits on human health. The assistant professorship is placed in the section on Protein Chemistry and Enzyme Technology at DTU Bioengineering and is a permanent entry-level faculty position . In the Protein Chemistry and Enzyme Technology section we perform impactful and innovative research aiming at harnessing the biotechnological potential of proteins in food and biomaterials, enzymatic biomass-processing, and interplay of diet, host and gut microbiota. We employ tools within protein structure, function, engineering and molecular interactions analyses as well as proteomics, genomics and bioinformatics. The section teaches bachelor and master students in biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology and protein and enzyme chemistry . The section has extensive international and national collaborations with top academic institutions as well as industrial partners. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to develop externally funded research projects, and lead own research proposals and projects. The position also includes teaching obligations, including supervision of BSc and MSc projects, and we expect that the candidate has or will take the Teaching and Learning course (UDTU) at DTU Learning Lab within the first year of the employment. Qualifications Candidates must Hold a PhD degree or equivalent and academic qualifications and research experience equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Assistant Professor, Researcher, or Postdoc. The candidate should also have: “Hands-on” experience with enzymatic oligosaccharide synthesis Deep knowledge of carbohydrate chemistry, notably bioactive food oligosaccharides Documented research experience within enzymatic transglycosylation reactions Theoretical and practical experience with enzyme reaction optimization, reaction analysis and enzyme kinetics resolution (enzyme assays, productivity terms, extended reactions) Experience with molecular protein assessment and protein engineering of enzymes Experience with enzyme immobilisation Knowledge of liquid chromatography analysis of carbohydrates and phenolics International and Industrial collaboration experience Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Danish.
