Text: The Collaborative Research Center “Wave phenomena - analysis and numerics” (CRC 1173), is currently seeking to recruit, as soon as possible, limited to three years, a Doctoral Researcher (f/m/d) Project B3 “Frequency combs” The CRC is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) since 2015. Its goal is to analytically understand, numerically simulate, and eventually manipulate wave propagation under realistic scenarios by intertwining analysis and numerics. The Project B3 “Frequency combs” (www.waves.kit.edu/B3) aims at establishing dedicated techniques that allow to understand and quantitatively describe frequency comb generation in Kerrnonlinear optical microresonators. These techniques will be verified experimentally in a joint effort of researchers from electrical engineering and mathematics and shall build the base for theory-guided design of novel chip-scale frequency comb generators. We seek an ambitious doctoral researcher with strong interest both in experimental and theoretical aspects of nonlinear optical systems. Your work will focus on experimental aspects of the project and comprise design, fabrication, characterization, as well as functional demonstration of chip-scale frequency comb sources. At the same time, you will closely work with peers with theoretical focus to advance and refine the underlying quantitative models and to use them for exploring novel device and comb generation concepts. You will have the opportunity to attend conferences, workshops and summer schools. Engagement in teaching is encouraged.
