Duties: The measurements of the German PV industry are based on measurements carried out by PTB, which achieves the smallest measurement uncertainties worldwide for the primary calibration of reference solar cells. Within the scope of its activities in support of the energy transition, PTB is setting up a Competence Center for PV metrology. In this context, a four-year project is to consolidate PTB's leading role in the field of solar modules. This project aims to develop the most accurate procedures worldwide for the calibration of solar modules with regard to their performance at standard test conditions and with regard to their annual production in standardized climate zones, based on energy-rating standard IEC 61853; Supporting the development of highly accurate measurement procedures and of the required laboratory and free-field measurement setups; Developing spectral, integral and angle-resolved measurement procedures to calibrate and characterize reference modules and to determine their standard temperature depending on the wind speed; Analyzing the measurement uncertainties in detail by means of Monte Carlo calculations; Presenting the results at international congresses and in specialized journals; Raising funds for additional third-party projects; Collaborating with partners from industry
Requirements: You have completed university studies in physics or a suitably related subject such as meteorology or geophysics with a very good degree (Master's or German Diplom ); You have excellent experimental and theoretical knowledge in the field of metrology, lasers, photovoltaics and optics; You have a very good command of both spoken and written German and English; You have excellent communication and cooperation skills and are a team player; You can work autonomously and on your own responsibility, and you are able to elaborate scientific publications; You are willing to travel within Germany as well as abroad within the scope of your assignments

September 2019 The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science. In Department 4.5, Applied Radiometry, of Division 4, we are looking for two scientists specializing in physics or a suitably related subject such as meteorology or geophysics to join us as soon as possible. These positions are available on the basis of 4-year fixed-term contracts. You will be employed at our Braunschweig site. Depending on your personal qualifications, the remuneration can reach up to remuneration group 14 TVöD Bund. As an alternative, one of the positions may be filled by a doctoral candidate. Doctoral candidates are initially given a 3-year fixed-term contract, and the remuneration is paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund 85 %.
